MZ Residence
Bellevue, WA, USA
Under Construction, Complete by Dec 2024
The private residence sits on a square corner lot with views toward Washington Lake from the higher floors.
A hollowed central atrium brings life to the otherwise dark and deep interior spaces that would've been resulted in a square footprint limited by lot setbacks. The inner corridors now serve as bridges, threading multiple double-height spaces that fill the interior with light and air throughout, connecting the outside to the inside, the sky to the garden.
A series of intersecting box volumes forms the modern yet playful south façade, strategically protecting the outdoor deck spaces during the prolong rainy seasons.
A simple material palette is chosen to allow sunlight to present the exterior and interior sculptural volumes. Golden-colored exterior natural wood panels at the southeast corner provide much-needed warmth to the residence during the wet and cold Bellevue fall and winter.
